Entry 158 - Hermit Knight - Once

In memory of Charlie, Lulu, Cocao Mo, Niko, Roxanne, Zeppelin, Bruiser, and Lilly. May you find each other on the Rainbow Bride. Together, just one last adventure...

I can't think of a better way to describe this wonderful slice of dungeon synth. This album is simply a tribute to everyone we have ever known in life and the stories and journeys we shared with them.

The music on Once is exceptionally focused on two thing: the passage of time and savoring that which we have in the moment. Everything here, every song, every instrument, every chord... everything feels like a long voyage, shared with friends both old and new.

The album begins with such a simple melody. It is instantly nostalgic, even the first time I heard it. The album then slowly swells and builds into this wonderful crescendo of drums and synths, yet it never loses that feeling of nostalgia.

I don't think I can emphasize enough how much this album reminds me of time spent with some of my closest friends. Not because the music reminds me of any particular event with them, but rather the aforementioned nostalgia.

This album takes me back to my younger years, when I didn't have the weight of the world on my shoulders. It reminds me of happier times, simpler times. Yet it also reminds me of the friends I still have, the people I love and care dearly for now.

This is an album I would recommend to every single person I know. This isn't simply good dungeon synth, this is simply good music.
