Entry 217 - Monastery - Peculiar Storms

Waves rolling in, the sound of birds litter the horizon. The steady flow of the surf breaking against a shoreline, the pulse of nature as water meets land.

As the landscape begins to reveal itself, further mysteries unfold and beckons explorers to venture deeper into its depths. This is the musical nature of Peculiar Storms, small glimpses of mysteries untold... inviting us in to explore further.

Monastery have created a fascinating album. It channels a nature loving tone and balances both man made instruments with the ambience of nature. The first track, Empty Vessel, Abandoned Lighthouse displays this balance effortlessly. All of the descriptions of the land meeting water thus far have been inspired by this track.

The album continues with a balance of natural ambience (one could even make a case for field recordings here) with some basic synthesizers greeting us with gentle melodies. It's a wonderful dichotomy that lasts throughout the six tracks of the release.

Peculiar Storms creates a dark ambient atmosphere within the context of new age music. It's a rather novel combination that is exceedingly easy to listen to. I fully intend to explore it more.
