Going into this one I had no idea whatsoever what I was in for. The cover stood out to me in a positive way so I picked it up, no pre-listening, nothing. Today I put it on my turntable not knowing what was in store... and I do have to say I'm pleasantly surprised.
Autokrator plays a feedback fueled mess that falls somewhere between death and black metal. It has the driving force of death metal, but it has the venom and hatred of black metal. It's a vicious combination.
The riffs themselves tend to be a bit on the simpler side but that is only one half of what is going on with this band. Along with the riffs there is almost always a layer of feedback, or noise, or something else to make the music more uncomfortable. Rarely is there ever any semblance of melody, even when there is something else is accompanying it that makes it more disagreeable to the human ear.
As often as possible I try to avoid blind buys. Sometimes though my curiosity gets the better of me with mixed results. I'm pretty pleased that this one turned out as well as it did.
