Entry 206 - Creeping - Revenant

For the longest time I was convinced that Iron Bonehead productions could not release a good album. Every thing I ever checked out from them was met with dubious suspicion. Recently though that opinion has begun to shift, and Creeping is one of the bands that started that shift.

Creeping unabashedly play blackened doom. No frills, no keyboards, no effects... just straight up blackened doom metal... with a ton of atmosphere.

The way the riffs are structured on Revenant make them resonate with each other and generate a genuinely eerie atmosphere. While this has been done a lot in the past, Creeping do this without a ton of reverb on the production. Instead they write riffs that linger and explore the more macabre side of the brain.

Much of the album is devoid of melody or any sort of musical hook. Instead the band focuses nearly entirely on atmosphere and creating unsettling undertones to the music.

Revenant was a pleasant surprise, especially coming form a label that I generally don't trust. While I have heard a lot of atmospheric metal in the past, the way that Creeping manage to pull it off here is quite enjoyable.
