Entry 173 - Corpsessed - Succumb to Rot
I get stuck in a loop with these summaries sometimes. At times words just don't come to what I'm hearing and its frustrating. I want to express what I'm hearing as accurately as possible, if nothing else so I can recall what I was listening to when I revisit the album and my previous comments down the line.
I think I just have to accept that sometimes things don't leave a lasting impression on me strong enough for me to write a strongly defined summary. That certainly seems to be the case with Succumb to Rot.
The album is certainly competent death metal, a bit of old school leanings with a bit of chaos thrown in there for good measure. At points its melodic, at points blasting for all its worth... and unless I'm listening to it at the time I can't seem to recall a single thing about the album.
I've got it playing in the background and there is a really sweet riff that is being played over a blast beat as the song fades out. I promise you though, after the song fades out its gonna be very hard for me to remember it with any definition in a few minutes.
This is just gonna have to be one of those albums that I enjoy when I put it on but I kind of forget about it when its not on the turn table. That's not inherently a bad thing. Every few months I'll come across it and have some thought akin to "oh yeah, that was pretty cool. What did it sound like again?" Then it'll hit the turntable and its like a brand new album all over again. That in itself is a pretty cool effect.
