Sometimes you need an album that calls things like it is. Today humanity is a cancer... so Anaal Natharkh is the obvious band of choice.
The Codex Necro... where to even start with an album like this? Do I talk about the excessive violence that comes out of every second of the album? Do I talk about the insanity of the vocals? Do I talk about the ear piercing production values?
Anaal Nathrakh manages to combine the song writing techniques of black metal with the absolutely unrelenting assault of grindcore. There are few albums that have ever approached this level of intensity, and fewer still that have ever matched it. When someone wants to hear the definition of extreme music, this album could easily be on the short list of contenders.
As crazy as it sounds, there is nuance to this release... even with everything turned up to 11 all the time. There is a variety of tempos and song structures used to give each song its own identity. Sure you have Pandemonic Hyperblast (possibly the most intense song I've ever heard) that wants to rip your face off, but you also have songs like Paradigm Shift - Annihilation which uses a bit slower pace to set a darker tone.
You also get songs like Submission is for the Weak. It uses a variety of tempos, pauses, and vocal styling to make itself memorable and maybe even a bit catchy.
The Codex Necro is one of those albums that absolutely needs to be heard. There is very little like this out there. As of this writing the album is 21 years old... almost to the day. Even after all this time this thing is as extreme as the day it was vomited fourth from its gaping womb.
The band put it best: FUCK EVERYTHING. MUST BE PLAYED FUCKING LOUD.
