Entry 265 - Kalmankantaja - My Kingdom

There is something about well done mid paced black metal that sticks with me. My Kingdom hardly ever goes beyond a mid paced plod, let alone use any double bass... forget about blast beats completely. This is a thick wall of sound that simply never lets up.

The entire album consists of four ten minute long songs. They are all similar in scope: slow, hypnotic guitar riffs, distant vocals, slow drums, and keyboards that guide the atmosphere and melodies through the frost.

This is a style I've heard many years ago by Ancient Wisdom in the mid to late 90's. Since then I don't think I've heard anyone try to replicate it for an entire album... it's refreshing to hear it done so well again.

The title of this series of albums alongside Bone and Dust is Nostalgia. I can't think of a better title since both this and the previous album remind me of the glory days of the second wave of black metal. These two albums are going to be spun a lot in the coming months.
