I needed a back to basics album. Something without any complex structures, no deep meanings. Just some straight forward death metal with no ulterior motive but to pummel you into the ground. Lords of Death has arrived.
After a brief acoustic intro the album quickly shows you its true character and really doesn't change much from there. The band plays doom/death with a b i g emphasis on pummeling riffs and grooves that are meant for one thing: head banging.
Lords of Death has a fantastic mix of tempos and killer vocals - seriously these things are some of the better death vox I've heard in a while. Everything is muddied up (the way it should be) and you can tell the band is having fun.
Temple of Void is un-appolgetically heavy with a surprisingly good pace to the album. It's fast when it needs to be, its crunchy and slow when it needs to be - hell its even melodic when it needs to be. Whatever it chooses to be at any point it works within the context of the song as well as the larger context to the album. There really isn't a weak moment throughout the 36 minute playtime
Maybe it's because I've been listening to other genres lately but this album feels especially good. It's been at least a few weeks, probably more, since I listened to an album that made me want to bang my head. That need has now been satiated.
