When it comes to øjeRum, I'm used to his long form compositions. Through the Archway of Mouths has songs that are typically five minutes or less. It's a large departure compared to what I'm used to hearing.
Through the Archway of Mouths is still very much øjeRum. The songs may not be as long but they have that unmistakable ambience that can only come from him. There is this eerie quality to his music that permeates every note of the album, be that haunting female vocals (normalize more vocals in ambient!), just a slight delay on the instruments, or even just a droning tone near silence. It all works and its all unsettling.
This is the first øjeRum album I have on wax. I wish I had more. The music that this guy creates is something pretty special. It works its way into your subconscious and slowly infects your being. Whenever I listen, no matter what state I'm in when I start listening by the end I'm always intrigued and just a little bit on edge. The fact that øjeRum can consistently get this feeling out of me even though I know what is coming is commendable to say the least.
