Entry 260 - Macroblank - 行​方​不​明

 

I think sometimes I force myself to listen to something that I'm not in the mood for. This thing has been sitting on my shelf for at least a few months just staring at me. For some unknown reason I just haven't had the urge to listen to it... makes me wonder why I got it in the first place.

Yesterday I finally pulled it out and put it on the turntable. If you know Macroblank then you know exactly what this album is. This vaporwave done in the style of smooth jazz. Macro is exceptionally good at this style, but all of his albums tend to run together for me.

What it does it does exceptionally well. The groove is tight, the sampling is done in such a way that its difficult to tell that this is vaporwave in the first place. There is a lot of effort that went into this.

Sometimes when the groove hits there is absolutely nothing that I can do to stop my head from bobbing, and then you add a trumpet or saxophone solo on top of it and I'm done. Even when I'm not in the mood for this kind of music I have to admit that it just makes the body sway.

行​方​不​明 absolutely has its place in my collection, I just don't think that today and yesterday were the right time to listen to it. It's exactly what I expected it to be and I'm listening to it just to get it off my backlog of unlistned records.
