There are few games that shaped my taste in gaming more than Super Metroid. I had been feeling the hype for the game with multiple editions of Nintendo Power dedicated to the game. To say I was excited to play it was an understatement.
That was nearly 25 years ago. Even to this day I have a yearly ritual to replay the game and beat it under 3 hours. A year seems to be the right amount of time as I forget a lot of the finer details of where things are and have to do a bit of exploring. That three hour mark is always a fun challenge to try and complete.
I didn't realize it until much later on how impactful the music is in this game. Each track fits the zone perfectly. The upbeat tunes of Brinstar. The dramatic intensity of Lower Norfair. The loneliness of the ambience when you first land on Zebes... it all works perfectly.
There isn't much more that I can say about this game or its music that would do it justice. This is simply one of the finest games and soundtracks that have ever been created and it is a crown jewel of my collection.
