I think I may have gone a little overboard with my dungeon synth spree earlier this year. I still have a ton of records to go through from my initial purchases. Some are fantastic in quality, others just meet the expectations of the genre.
Wandering in Unseen Lands falls into the category of competent dungeon synth that just seems to be lacking that little bit of extra oomph that drives me into adoring an album. The album is well executed in the classic dungeon synth style... this probably could have come out of the 90's except the production is markedly better.
Each side tells its own story from start to finish. Much like the projects name I get a feeling of a spirit floating between worlds as they witness the mortal realm around them.
The album does tend towards the ambient side of the genre a bit more than the forceful driving melodies you may find elsewhere. It works for the release.
Sceptre of the Fading Dawn have released a decent album here, one that I will likely revisit in the future. That said, if I wasn't on a rabid buying spree for dungeon synth earlier this year this one likely would have been a pass. Who knows though? I could warm up to this one over time.
