By the time I got into listening to video game music on vinyl the two Monument Valley soundtracks were long sold out. They became one of those "I wish I was into this hobby earlier" releases and I moved on. A few months later I was speaking with someone who would end up becoming a wonderful friend about this release. He offered to sell me both for a very reasonable price and I gladly accepted.
Monument Valley II easily falls into the category "music that is good enough to listen to outside of the context of the game." The peaceful serenades within these two discs are deceptive in their depth.
At first the music is simple and has a cheerful yet inquisitive tone to it. On repeated listens however the album begins to grab hold and take root in you. The music reverberates into my very being, and I find myself swept away by its simple melodies and gentle ambience.
There's something about simplicity done well that always speaks to me. I find myself coming back to it more as I age. There is enough chaos in the world, so if a piece of music can get me a bit of respite then I am immediately drawn to it. Monument Valley II offers one of those musical shelters for me.
