There is a time for everything. A time for death metal, a time for ambient, a time for classical, a time for bubble gum laced synthpop.
Siamese Youth play an upbeat version of synthwave that leans heavily into pop for melodies and song structure. The melodies are simple, the song structure is overwhelmingly verse/chorus. It's easy to digest and sometimes its exactly what I need.
I don't spin this record often. I reserve it for times when I need a charge of positivity to start my day. A light in dark times. It tends to have that effect on me.
The simple grooves work their way into my brain and don't leave. They take residence and push out things that I would rather not have occupying my mind. Not sure how it does it but I'm sure as hell not complaining.
It's almost funny how diverse synthwave can get. You have artists that play darksynth that border on death metal levels of intensity and then you have Siamese Dream who may as well be pop. I find the genre fascinating and these guys are a strong contributing factor to that curiosity.
