There is nothing in the world like BVdub's music. The effect that his albums have on me is utterly unique. I get whisked away to a melancholy place where time moves in slow motion and none of my earthly cares matter.
Departing in Descent is a collabaration between BVdub and James Bernard. I'm not familiar with Mr. Bernard's music but after this it seems like his style is very well aligned with BVdub's.
If I didn't know that this was a colab before hand I would have thought that this was the latest BVdub album. Everything here fits exceedingly well with his style. The atmosphere, the immense reverb, the slow brooding melodies... everything.
This is the type of album where you sit down in your favorite chair, close your eyes and let the music wash over you. It's akin to a warm blanket that protects you from the evils of the outside world.
Despite all that the album has a touch of sadness or longing to it. It's an odd balance between the sadness of the melodies and the utter warmth of the production, and it's part of what makes BVdub so incredibly unique. This is another excellent addition to his vast discography.
