Entry 233 - Beyond Creation - Earthborn Evolution

Technical death metal is a hit and miss genre for me. So many bands forget to have any sort of concept of a song except for playing as many notes as possible in as short of amount of time as possible. While technically impressive it's not something I enjoy listening to.

Beyond Creation expertly walk the line of technical excellence and actual detail to song creation. The riffs are memorable while still being obviously difficult to play. The bass in particular is a stand out with its excellent counter balance to the guitars. It's produced cleanly and is audible enough that you can hear it clearly but not so much that it dominates the music.

While Earthborn Evolution doesn't have as many memorable moments as The Aura I do believe its a more consistent album overall. The previous album had some sections of songs or even full songs that didn't click with me. There were also moments that made me just gasp and go "wow".

I like pretty much all the songs on Earthborn Evolution, however there are none of those wow moments. I wish somehow the band would figure out how to combine the two. If they ever did the resulting album would be in strong contention for a top ten album.
