There are some albums that drive me insane. They are inconsistent to the point that it makes them nearly unlistenable. It's even worse when the artist's output is normally high quality.
Maverick Hunters is a work of genius mixed with songs that simply just are not for me... I don't like them at all. When the album is good (like on Dear Summer) its unstoppable. The beats are strong, the atmosphere is amazing, and the vocals are smoothe as hell.
When the album is bad - like on Complete the Mission - it feels like its just a bunch of random samples strung together with a hollow beat put on top. It just does nothing for me.
All the elements are here for an exceptional release. Two accomplish hip hop artists, great source material to work and sample from, and a strong and focused concept. The execution of some of the songs just detract from the whole to the point where it affects my ability to truly enjoy the album.
So why then did I buy this? I honestly don't have a good answer outside of I wanted me video game music and I didn't have much in my collection when this was ordered. Fear of missing out is a hell of a drug - one that I'm trying hard to fight these days.
