I was on my endless quest of cleaning records last night when I hit the "P" section. I forgot I have a couple of Project Lazarus albums, and decided to throw this one on.
Project Lazarus plays a knock off of synthwave dubbed "soviet wave." I'm not familiar enough with Russian music during the Soviet era to really speak as to if this channels those vibes or not. The music does ooze an analog sound however.
The one standout for me with Project Lazarus' works is the production. It captures a retrofuturistic sound like no other artist I have heard of late.
The album feels like a journey through space. The way the songs are composed, alongside the synths, and production brings to mind the old space shows like Star Trek, Lost in Space, etc.
Project Lazarus has tapped into his own sound here. When the music comes on its instantly recognizable. It strikes a wonderful balance of paying tribute to the old school while still offering something new.
