I'm sitting in my normal listening chair, formulating words on a mix that has been put together by a DJ. But not just any DJ. This DJ is a dolphin who uses a computer to speak in an Australian accent. Yeah...
Umurangi Generation is essentially an eclectic DJ mix of various electronic styles. The fact that it is a video game soundtrack is secondary.
This mix has some of the most diverse beats and genre splicing that I have heard in a long while. Its so off the wall that it quickly approaches the edge of being too strange for its own good.
There are over forty tracks on these two LP's. Each part of the mix is short, and that is a great strength to the album. Nothing overstays its welcome, the songs are fully realized and executed in usually less than 2 minutes.
While the soundtrack approaches the edge of being too strange, it never crosses it. The whole thing works in an odd and quirky sort of way. Hats off to dolphin DJ's.
