Entry 080 - Zake, City of Dawn, Ossa - A Pale Shelter

A few months ago I found the Past Inside the Present ambient label. They had a wonderful sale going on where you could grab 3 LP's for 33 bucks, that's a hell of a deal. This LP was part of one of the three bundles I got.

A Pale Shelter is quite simply droning ambient. There are minimal melodies here and by far most of this release is slowly evolving soundscapes.

This is ideal background music, I've had this on throughout the day just working around the house and it does a wonderful job creating a peaceful atmosphere.

For active listening? I'm not so sure I dig this as much. The sound design is great, but there isn't enough stuff buried in the mix here to dig into.

When I do active listening for ambient music I'm looking for the small details that are hidden, and I really had trouble hearing many in this album.

Does that make it bad? Not at all, it simply makes it something I would put on when I need something to fill silence rather than something I would give my whole attention to.
