Entry 102 - Breath of Fire

Isn't it funny how some bleep bloops put together excellent music that stay with you for years and years, while others just are better left in nostalgia.

I remember playing Breath of Fire from a rented copy from my local video store. Every week I would pray that no one else rented it and saved over my file. It didn't happen and I eventually beat the whole thing.

I don't remember much about the story but I remember this one enemy called and ICU... its a giant eyeball... :sigh:. This has absolutely nothing to do with the music though.

I have fond memories of trying to beat this game, but I didn't remember the music at all. I bought the record to remind me of the game, but unfortunately the music did nothing to spark memories.

For me, if 8 and 16 bit music doesn't accompany some fond nostalgia I have a really hard time getting into it. Its rare that I enjoy chip tunes by themselves, the music has to be truly exceptional for that to happen.

Breath of Fire's soundtrack doesn't have that effect on me. And that's a true shame.
