I've said many times
that I'm not a fan of vaporwave. Taking a song, slowing it down and
putting effects over it its not something I enjoy. It takes something
special for me to really take a liking to a vaporwave artist. One of
those exceptions is Macroblank.
Macroblank's songs are crafted
by him sound like the samples belong together. This isn't just
haphazardly thrown together, these songs are curated; as a painter would
create each part of a canvas into a whole painting, so it is with
Macroblank's music.
Unlike much of vaporwave, these songs are not
slowed down. Instead they have a chilled out lounge music/smooth jazz
vibe to them. It fades into the background quite easily but its
infectious if you give it an active listen.
The collaboration
with Oblique Occasions works well for both of them. Their styles fit
well together, and while there are stylistic differences between the
two, the album feels complete. Not a bad way to spend a lazy afternoon.
