I tell ya its a great time to be alive. So many albums are seeing a repress after many years of being unavailable.
I don't know if I'm fully qualified to talk about the music found within Deltron 3030. Hip hop is a genre I only dabble in, and I'm not familiar with a lot of the history behind releases. That said I do know what I like within the genre, and Deltron 3030 is right up there.
There is a lot going on in this release, a lot of it good and some that is just filler. The filler is what it is, just short tracks that add flavor but not really much else. I will say that they do add to the album feeling like a complete album and don't take away form the experience, but the album would not be any less if they were not included.
Now when Deltron 3030 shines - like on the title track - its some of the best music I've heard within the genre. Going back to the title track "3030," this thing has to be one of my favorite hip hop songs ever created. The thing just feels epic in scope and execution: incorporating choirs and strings into its long running time. Everything in this song is done with intent and it uses the full 7 and a half minutes to the maximum potential.
While the rest of the album doesn't quite reach the heights of the title track it retains a high quality throughout. There is a large amount of variety within the tracks, some having that classic kung fu feel. Others embrace the sci-fi theme and exude a futuristic vibe. Each song is distinct in the best possible way, and even so this feels like an album: everything here fits together so well and it really feels complete front to back.
Deltron 3030 is over 20 years old and it feels as fresh today as when it first dropped.
