Entry 104 - J. Carter - Speak, You Also

There's points in my life where I find myself seeking. What am I trying to find? I really don't know, but I do know that something is missing.

Many times I can find what I'm looking for within music. I'll begin to play a record, then suddenly there is an epiphany, the sound is exactly what I've been lacking. J. Carter's Speak, You Also is the latest album to fill this void.

I'm not entirely sure why this one clicked, I've heard many other albums like it. At its core this is droning ambient. However on top of that core there are tones, melodies, and instrumentation that begins to distinguish the album from its brethren in the genre.

Vocals are used sparingly in various languages. When present, they both ground and add to the enigma of the music simultaneously. The instrumentals range from stringed instrument to what I presume are analog synths. They combine in a way where the music wisps by the listeners ear, never fully providing a clear picture of the music.

Speak, You Also is an album shrouded in mystery. The music is steeped in obscure tones and melodies, that create a mental playground for interpretation. It welcomes me to find the hidden mysteries that lay hidden within.
