I don't know what it
is about early Primordial albums. They have this majesty and magic to
them that completely enrapture me whenever I listen to them.
A
Journey's End is primal. This album is an untamed spirit. Yet it has a
sense of refinement. It's the musical embodiment of the noble savage.
This
is folk metal without the use of tin flutes, fiddles or any of the
other gimmicky instruments that so many in the genre use. This is two
guitars, bass, drums, and vocals.
The songs are written like
folk songs. You can feel the history and the lore written into each one
of these riffs. There is real pain in these passages. Real anger. Real
emotion. In short this music has a soul.
Between this album and
Spirit the Earth Aflame, Primordial created some of the most unique
music within metal. I absolutely adore both of these albums, I consider
both to be indispensable in my collection.
