On occasion an album can blindside you. Going in with no expectations, when the album finally hits turntable it exceeds every expectation. Contact is one such album.
This thing is so simple yet completely enveloping. The instruments are drenched in reverb and delay, and it creates a deep and haunting atmosphere... and then the singing starts.
The element here that pushes the music into the next stratosphere is Sita's voice. The way that she sings over the music paints a picture of a nymph singing to you through a foggy forest. Its just sublime.
While a lot of ambient combines classical instrumentation with reverb and tape delay not many use vocals on top. Contact adds Sita's vocals in in such an expert fashion that I can only hope that this helps normalize the use of some vocals in the ambient genre.
