There are some albums that I resonate with. I put it on and it feels right to listen to. Just about any album created by Brock Van Wey fits this category.
I'm more familiar with Van Wey's main project BVdub, this is my first experience with his Earth House Hold project. Honestly this could have been released under the BVdub moniker and no one would have batted an eye.
Daybreak Basements and Broken Hearts channels heavily reverbed ambient compositions accompanied by ample vocal samples and deep house beats. The end result is an album that completely envelops the listener.
The songs start with a short introduction of what the main theme is and then slowly weave in vocals and beats. The compositions then start meandering about with the basic concepts until a satisfactory conclusion is reached.
This is nothing new for Van Wey. In fact this is the way most of his beat oriented music is created. Does he have a formula at this point? You bet. Does that mean I like this album any less? Not one bit.
Daybreak Basements and Broken Hearts is the latest album in a long line of Brock Van Wey albums that I simply love. He has a sound that simply speaks to me in a way that most other artists do not.
