While they do certainly play progressive metal and it is certainly epic - these descriptions are limiting as to the sound that Wilderun has tapped into. These aren't just songs, these are akin to epic poetry in metal form. These compositions go through twists and turns in a stunning and truly rare way.
When listening to Veil of Imagination I close my eyes and get swept away. Words will never be accurate enough to describe the true sense of scope of this music, it simply has too many facets - all of them necessary to complete the beauty which is Wilderun.
There are elements of classical, movie scores, death and progressive metal, and most of all a sense of awe and wonder to these songs. The vocals are a true highlight. The cleans are delicate and airy. The growls are deep and menacing. Each is used to great effect within each song.
The guitars follow suit, being aggressive when needed and taking a subdued tone when needed. Then there are the orchestrations, the ingredient that completes the songs. Mostly they are used to compliment the band, however the are times when they are moved to the forefront - like a delicate dance. Everything here is in perfect balance, and the result is incredible.
The whole thing never overwhelms, even though it feels like it easily could. Everything is done with intent and fits exactly as it should. Again, words can't do this release justice. Its something that truly must be experienced to be fully appreciated.
