Entry 110 - Old Sorcery/Druidian Forest Split

I'm in trouble. I've been intentionally avoiding dungeon synth for the longest time. I knew I would fall in love with it. I knew I would want to go nuts and get tons of records. I knew it was dangerous. I was right.

Dungeon synth at its roots was an offshoot of black metal. Essentially the synth driven interludes and intro's to albums were made to be the entirety of the album. As it put more distance between black metal and itself dungeon synth blossomed into a full fledged genre - complete with sub genres of its own.

For the longest time the only dungeon synth I had heard was Mortiis era one. I enjoyed some of it, and other parts were a hard pass. The parts I loved were the long compositions that brought to mind fantasy landscapes and sparked the imagination.

That is exactly the energy that Old Sorcery and Druidian Forest have tapped into on this split. This is high fantasy, this is vast landscapes, this is epic.

The synths weave a fantastical picture of fog ridden landscapes, with the sun just piercing over the mountain clad horizon. We as the listener bear witness to the dawn as we slowly traverse the valley.

I'm sure this genre isn't for everyone. For me though, this is exactly why I was afraid of getting into this genre. I'm going to need more... much much more.
