After resetting my expectations, I was able to take in this album for what it is: a wonderful musical journey that sees Daft Punk abandon their electronic roots and use almost all acoustic instrumentation on Random Access Memories.
This album is truly a trip. Each song has something to contribute to the whole. They very much stand on their own, however the whole thing is best taken in all at once... or at least one side of a record at a time. The songs just synergize so well together that whenever I start this thing up I feel obligated to finish it.
I've never gotten too deep into disco, though the few albums I have I do enjoy. Random Access Memories probably isn't a true disco album but it captures that fun dance-able feel so well that I can't think of it as anything but. This is a wonderful swansong to a beautiful musical career for Daft Punk.
