Entry 107 - Dav Drallion - H O L Y W R A T H

I've been sitting here listening to Dav thinking about how to best sum up his sound. I keep drawing blanks so this is going to be short and sweet.

Dav Drallion plays darksynth - a style of synthwave that has more in common with death metal than it does 80's retro aesthetics. The music on Holywrath has a lot of melody compared to Dav's other works. I tend to enjoy his albums more when there is less melody and the sound is more visceral.

Holywrath while ticking all the right boxes for a good darksynth album is just missing that intangible something that would put from a fair album to a great one. Its not bad, but its not amazing either.

Unrelated to the music, production/mastering on the record seems just a bit off. Some of the levels are not nearly as clear as they should be. This music is supposed to kick my ass and the bass in particular seems to be rather tame. Other times the levels just seem to go quiet, then get loud... I'm not sure whats going on here. It really decreases the potency of the music all together.
