Entry 303 - Deathcult - Beasts of Faith

Every fan of death metal needs a record or three like this. Not necessarily Beasts of Faith, but a record like it. Old School, down and dirty doom/death that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Deathcult is another one of those records that I forgot I had. I decided to spin it when I couldn't remember what it sounded like. While it's not my normal cup of tea it's a record I'm glad I own, because sometimes I do crave doom/death and I'm going to be adding this one to that list of albums to pull out when I want to listen to it.

As I alluded to earlier Beasts of Faith isn't a serious record. It's a collection of riffs that sound like it's friends that got together and decided to form a band and are just having a lot of fun playing extreme metal. Nothing earth shattering, a little bit sloppy, but super fun to listen to.

While most of the album leans heavily towards the death metal side, there are some rather ominous doom sections as well. They are usually rather short breaks between the old school death metal sections. They work well to change up the pace and make the album a lot more enjoyable than if it was just the death metal part.

The vocals too deserve special mention. The dude sounds like hes possessed. This is a combination of LG Petrov and Martin Van Durin. While it's not as well executed as those two legendary vocalists I think it gives an idea of what they sound like.

Overall not a bad album at all... not bad at all.
