Every metal fan has an album like this. THE album that they point to when they want someone to know what heavy music sounds like. For me Impetuous Ritual's debut album is one of the heaviest albums I have ever heard.
On top of being incredibly heavy, the band is also incredibly chaotic and almost noise driven. The riffs are all over the place, there is very little to no structure, and every single note has this sense that it's barely under control. It would be one thing if this was just a song or two on the album, but the band keeps it up for nearly the entirety of the record. It's truly insane.
I found these guys a couple of years after getting into Portal. When I found out that some of the members were part of this band as well I had to check it out. While the overall feel is very different from Portal the sense of alien sounds and chaos are also at the heart of Impetuous Ritual.
More often than not I have no idea what these guys are playing. I'm just swept up in the maelstrom of notes and chords. There is seeming no rhyme or reason as to why things are played the way they are, they simply exist and will continue to do so with or without the listeners enjoyment. This is complex music that requires a few listens to start to wrap your head around it, but it certainly is worth it.
Outside of the monumental heaviness Relentless Execution of Ceremonial Excrescence is a tour de force in both chaos and dissonance. Highly recommended listening to anyone who is into any or all of those categories.
