Entry 318 - Anguine - MMXXI / MMXXI²

 

This is the second recommendation from the dudes at my local shop. I asked them for something different and disturbing and I was pointed towards the demos of Anguine. Boy were they right on the money with this one.

This record contains two demos form the band. Both recorded in 2021, both containing two songs, both being less than 10 minutes long. The entire record clocks in less than just over 15 minutes, but inside those short few minutes is some of the more ferocious metal I've heard in the past few months... even in the past year or two.

Anguine are completely relentless. The music is completely alien... nothing sounds human. All of the riffs (if you can even call them that) seem to do whatever the fuck they want with no regard for the listeners ability to comprehend what is happening. And then just as quickly as the insanity comes it leaves and it's time to flip the record.

Normally I'm a bit averse to exceedingly short records like this, but in the case of Anguine 15 minutes is about perfect. The music is so incredibly intense that it needs to be consumed in small bits. There is simply too much going on in such a short amount of time for me to fully appreciate it for any length of time. I need to go back and relisten multiple times to even begin to wrap my head around this stuff.

All that said, these guys absolutely have my attention and I'm going to be on the lookout for anything they have coming out in the future. Crazy shit.
