Entry 397 - Elden Ring - Disk 2

I feel like the further I get into the Elden Ring soundtrack the more of a story it tells. Disc 1 was almost exclusivly ambient in scope, while Disc 2 begins very mucn in the same way, but the end of it a very different story is being told.

The ambient music that plays on the over world encourages exploration, it lures the player in and through its subtle changes encourages the player to go through all the nooks and crannies that the game has to offer. That is exactly where the start of this record begins. Side A and some of Side B are almost exclusively ambient, they vary between cautions, calm, curious, and dark moods. Between this and Disc 1 there is a LOT of ambient on this album.

Where Disc 2 starts to deviate though is on the later tracks. The orchestra comes in full swing and we are graced by the sounds of combat. This is the start of the boss music from within the game.

It never truly occurred to me just how many boss themes there are in Elden Ring. Even within the three sides that feature them on disc 2 I still don't think I've even gotten through half of the tracks.

What I find compelling about this soundtrack is how well it mimics my playing of the game. It starts off so innocent and small and slowly builds into this massive swell. The music mirrors this. It starts off with the calmest parts of the soundtrack and slowly lures the listener in. As the soundtrack continues further, the music gets more intense and more involved.

It's very close that first realization that the map expands as you progress further into Elden Ring. With each record the music expands. I can't wait to put on disc 3.
