Entry 352 - Ossements - II

 

This is pretty much a direct continuation of Ossements I. Ossements play raw black metal with very long and involved interludes between the metal portions. The metal portions are often comprised of just one to two riffs.

Where the project really is interesting though is in the interludes. Sometimes the interludes will contain classical music, other times dark ambience, other times a non-metal version of the black metal that played previously. You never really know what you are going to get.

The other interesting thing about the project is the song lengths. While there are a lot of individual ideas scattered throughout the tracks, there are only two tracks per album - each being around 15 minutes, or one side of the LP. Everything has been stitched together so that the music sounds cohesive when switching between the metal and non-metal sections.

Ossements is a fascinating project. The inclusion of so much non-metal elements in the songs is really what drew me to pick up the three full lengths. Everything is raw, everything is obscure, and everything is done to an exacting standard.
