Entry 323 - 36 - The Box - Part II - Orphans

Orphans is a selection of compositions by 36 that were never released prior to this boxed set. Being essentially b-sides I wasn't sure what to think of this release. Would it live up to the quality of the rest of his catalogue?

Essentially Orphans picks up right where Hypersona left off. These are minimalist, melody driven, atmosphere as thicker than pea soup ambient. Seeing as I'm a large fan of that style, it's safe to say that I highly enjoy this short selection of unreleased tracks.

While the album does feel a bit more disjointed than Hypersona (and why wouldn't it, this is a collection of unreleased tracks - not a proper album) the overall sense of atmosphere is very consistent. It's inviting and brings a sense of familiarity and nostalgia. It recalls a simpler time, when we had less to worry about. It's comforting... it's nice.

While this was not something I was looking forward to digging into as much as the other proper albums in the boxed set, this collection of music is an excellent addition. Another wonderful record to add to my ever growing three six collection.
