Entry 379 - Aversio Humanitatis - Behold the Silent Dwellers

I truly don't know how I feel about this album. I've been spinning it for nearly two days straight and I still don't have a solid opinion on the music. Once the record ends I really don't have much recollection of what just transpired even when listening actively.

When I do have the record playing I enjoy whats here: semi dissonant riffs that resonate with each other, competent drumming that doesn't distract from the music, semi shouted vocals that devolve into a sinister growl when needed. The atmosphere is also good, it weaves in and out of slower more note oriented passages and the tremolo picked faster passages or any combination thereof. Nothing is outright bad about this... it's just not memorable.

I have the record playing right now as I'm writing this and for the life of me I could not tell you what is coming next or what was before this. For whatever reason the music does not stick with me whatsoever. There are points where I will recognize a riff from before, and that breeds some form of familiarity with the record... but once it's gone, it's gone.

One of the main thing that I look for when I write a summary like this is what stood out about the album. With Behold the Silent Dwellers that is a resounding... nothing. Nothing stands out about this release in a positive or negative direction. Sometimes that's just what happens.

I'll come back to Aversio Humanitatis in the future, but for now I think I've got to shelve the record. There are other things that I would rather listen to, and while this is not bad it certainly isn't good enough to hold my attention either.
