I have had this record set for quite some time and I'll spare the story of trying to get duplicate records replaced, credit card charge backs, and ultimate resolution. Those are a tale for another day.
Elden Ring is my favorite game in many years. I spent so many hour in it over the past year since release that I hardly believe it. It's world, it's invitation to explore, it's incredible depth, and unparalleled beauty and repulsiveness all wrapped up into one game is something I have not seen in other games. It's not perfect, but it's damn close.
The music is another aspect that I found compelling. I ordered the boxed set of the complete soundtrack the day it came out, without hearing the entire thing. I liked what I had heard so far and knew I would like the rest.
Disc 1 contains the title screen music and much of the ambience found in the over world. The music (if you can call it that) on the over world is often minimal in quiet. This record needs to be played at high volumes to get the nuance contained within the grooves.
There is a lot to like about this. While it took me quite a few listens to fully digest the music contained within disc 1 I finally feel like I have a decent grasp on it.
Disc 1 of Elden Ring serves as an entry point into the game. It introduces the player to a minimal amount of music and allows the listener to take the tones in. Much like the game when first started there is a vast world around you and this is only the beginning of what is to come.
