Well now, this is certainly unique. I've listened to this album nearly ten times in the past few days and I still don't know if I like it or not. I will give it one thing though, I don't think I've ever heard anything quite like this before.
Ossements play black metal at their core, its raw as fuck and its simple as hell... but that's only the beginning. Listening to the two "songs" on this record are more like listening to two old radio shows that are played over antiquated equipment.
The music will start as black metal and then slowly fade out to some ambience... or it will transition into something akin to a patriotic theme to some imaginary country... or it can become something entirely different. Whatever happens next is nearly completely random, but it is always interesting.
The predominant style here are short 2-3 minute metal sections with exceedingly poor production. These sections usually are only one to two riffs with distant vocals. It's what's in between these sections that makes this album so incredibly fascinating to me. This obsession with old world radio is what gives this album it's character.
The album, if you really want to call it that, feels more like a radio play than it does anything related to metal. Its incredibly fascinating, and it's an album I know I'm going to keep coming back to... if nothing else because of its incredibly unique premise.
