I recently rediscovered Krallice with their third album. I had forgotten these guys were a band and was excited to get back into a band that I enjoyed when they first started releasing albums but got forgotten over time. I picked up Dimensional Bleedthrough for a good price and started spinning it tonight.
Krallice, on Dimensional Bleedthrough, play blackish metal. The songs... are not really songs... more like just a bunch of riffs that are stitched together over a blast beat that may or may not have anything to do with each other. Most songs seem content to just meander through twenty to thirty riffs over the course of eight to ten minute long songs.
While many of the riffs themselves have interesting moments, many of them don't have any real sense of progression to them. This makes the album feel stagnant, which is ironic since there are so many individual riffs. Honestly though I could not tell you where one song ends and the next begins... they all have the same structure and they all have the same fault.
There are so many good ideas present on Dimensional Bleedthrough... so many individually good riffs. It's like the band forgot that the riffs have to fit together though... it's like they forgot to make these actual songs rather than just a bunch of riffs. Disappointing to say the least.
