Entry 332 - Persona 4

I came to a realization while listening to this soundtrack almost the entire day today. I love Persona 4, I love the Persona 4 soundtrack... I don't know if I like it as a dedicated listening experience outside of the game.

This soundtrack combined with Persona 3's is some of the finest VGM to ever be created. I really enjoy it to an unhealthy extent when I'm playing the games. When I'm playing it on my turntable though it doesn't hit the same. Sure it will bring back memories for the first side or two, but after 8 separate sides of listening it's a bit much.

Do I regret getting this? Hell no. This is a release that I will always cherish. Does this impact my purchase of future releases? Maybe... where i start having a difficult time with video game releases is when the amount of time dedicated to listen to the whole thing goes from hour to hours plural.

Another thing that I really need to keep in mind in the future is that many VGM records do not sound like an album. They are the game soundtrack sure, but they are not cohesive and do not sound like they belong together in an album setting. There are many VGM records that do sound good put together in soundtrack form, and those are the ones that I intend to focus on moving forward I think.

This hasn't really been a reflection of the music contained within Persona 4 yet, just more of a memoir for me to come back to. The actual music on here is great. Individually the tracks are fantastic and draw me back to my first time playing one of my favorite RPG's. The combination of jazz and lounge music for most of the soundtrack is killer, especially when the vocals are added in. It helped make hours of dungeon crawling way funner than it should have been.

In short: fantastic music, fantastic game, album itself is too long for a once through sitting.
