Who ever thought that classic rock mixed with classic rock would sound so cool? On their third album Chapel of Disease straight up sound like Dire Straights playing death metal, never heard anything quite like this outside of these six songs.
We Have Seen The Storm combines the riffing and to some extent the hybrid overdrive/distortion tone of the 70's and 60's rock bands with death metal vocals and drumming. It gives the album a vintage tone, even though it only came out a few years ago.
The songs are long, averaging around 7 minutes each. While the songs are longer they don't stray too far from the initial concepts laid out within the first minute or two. This gives the songs a cohesive feeling, and gives the album an overall smooth feel as it progresses.
While all the songs have undeniable "cool" vibe to them, some are better than others. 1000 Different Paths includes clean singing and sounds the most like the music it is paying tribute to out of the bunch. Song of the Gods has an undeniably infectious groove that gets me every time.
This song was on my top ten for 2018 for a while and I recently decided that I needed to take it off. It's a killer album but a few of the songs feel a little flat compared to the potential shown here. If this style is developed a bit further on the next album I have no doubts that the band will be flirting with a top ten spot again.
