I have no idea how I came
across this band. Don't know where I heard of them, no idea who they
are. I just know they write kick ass black metal.
Four songs, roughly forty minutes. My kind of full length. Each song is it's own epic that explores different themes and ideas, but still maintains a strong enough identity that the album is cohesive and recognizable as Acathexis.
Three out of the four songs start with a soft intro before the metal starts. Where it goes from there is anyone's guess. This album incorporates tons of blasting, competent vocals, and excellent melodies and pacing.
When at their best Acathexis are blasting at incredible speeds while interlacing twin guitar melodies over top with a wall of sound effect that is so thick it could be the fog in Silent Hill. The band isn't afraid to switch it up though, there are plenty of slower sections scattered throughout the album that are equally strong.
Many of these slower sections play a variation of the melody in the faster sections before transitioning into the next phase of the song. This gives a great sense of cohesion throughout the compositions and makes everything flow like a river. It works incredibly well.
This album is a few years old at this point and I've only recently picked it up. With the soaring prices of records it was nice to get this one for a very reasonable cost. High quality records are still out there to be found for good prices, you just got to dig. Acathexis is proof of that.
