Style: dungeon synth, comfy synth
Thoughts: I have purchased a lot of dungeon synth lately. Many of these were acquired during Black Friday sales where labels were liquidating much of their inventory. This was one such purchase.
Alchemical Recipes is a collection of three demos from Assorted Potions. Each one is short and full of fun little ideas that bring to mind exactly what one would expect with a name like Assorted Potions: a small shop in the middle of the woods with a witch or other brewer of magics greeting you as you walk through the door.
The melodies are simple and the music light hearted. The instrumentation used is absolutely within the realm of classic dungeon synth: keyboards that don't even try to sound like the real instrument. It ends up sounding like a long lost video game soundtrack with the instruments trying to mimic their real life counterparts.
It's not exceptionally compelling music, but it is a nice listen. It's the kind of music to put on in the background as you settle by a fire to read a nice book. It's a quaint little collection of comfy synth songs, nothing more, nothing less.
