Style: black metal
Primary Emotions/Themes: denizens of the realm of night assemble
Thoughts: Setherial is a band that I was never able to check out when I was younger. I had heard Nord... multiple times over the years but never saw need to own it. I saw Lords of the Nightrealm on sale for an excellent price and decided to pick it up.
I've often heard the term Norsecore applied to this band. That being constant blast beats and tremolo riffs with minor chords. Panzer Division Marduk is the poster child for the style, and I can't say that things are too different on this album.
From that description there really isn't much more to say on this release. It's black metal, played fast - blisteringly fast. All of the stereotypes are here, but the thing is that this is one of the places where those started. It's one thing if you are a follower and create derivative works of others, but its another thing all together when the band is one of the creators of the style. Setherial is one of those, and for that they at minimum deserve respect for their place in black metal history with this release.
