Style: vaporwave, barber beats
Thoughts: Some albums I can leave on my turntable for hours on end and not get tired of them. When I find a good barber beats album this tends to be what happens. What better artist to do this with than the godfather of the entire genre: Haircuts for Men.
I had not heard this album prior to No Problema announcing it getting a physical copy. I've listened to a lot of HFM's music, but I can't even claim to have gotten close to listening to all of it - so I ended up going into this one nearly blind. I wasn't sure if I was going to grab it or not, but one of my close friends said that this was one of HFM's best so I decided to pull the trigger.
What I got was essentially most if not all of Haircuts for Men's discography distilled into sixty minutes. It has the classical guitar work, the lounge/jazz hybrid that I love so much, the experimental stuff that sounds out of place, - yet somehow also works. It grooves, it hypnotizes, it is quintessential HFM.
I don't really have much more to say about this one. If you know what barber beats sounds like, this was around before the genre was even coined. If you don't know what it sounds like then this is an excellent place to start. In fact Haircuts for Men is the logical starting place for all things groovy and chilled out vaporwave. Funny how that works, even after all these years.
