Entry 1654 - Ba'a - Egregore

Style: black metal

Thoughts: There is a simplicity to some black metal that gives it an edge. No gimmicks, no fancy shit, just guitars, drums, and vocals. This is almost exactly the formula that Ba'a adheres to with their second album Egregore.

Continuing almost exactly where the first album left off, No nonsense riffs paired with brutal vocals that result in an incredibly violent atmosphere. The riffs play like razors in the night coming to slice open the wounds of whoever would stand in their path. The vocals howl  and shriek in ways that should not be humanly possible.

The riffs take on many shapes and forms. Be it the blisteringly fast In Umbra et Luce, or the slow and brooding Fames the band has created a set of six songs that do not pretend to be anything other than violence incarnate.

There is something about French black metal that is different from every other country. There is an inherit quality to black metal in particular that is not found in other parts of the genre. Ba'a only solidify this further with their two albums. They do not know the meaning of weakness, nor do they have any sense of what it means to compromise. This is black metal at its simplest... at its purest.
