Entry 1650 - Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Chronicles of the Upheaval

Style: video game music, modern classical

Thoughts: What a fascinating record. In so many ways this is the same as the previous record in this extended series: Rise of Tyranny. What's different here though is that this music feels more profound, more self reflective. It gives me pause.

There are still bombastic sections, there are still moments of cinematic glory, but there are also moments where all of that is stripped away and the music allows me to dwell on the emotions that I have felt during these sections. There are several points where the main Zelda theme is played in conjunction with these bombastic moments and the familiar melody makes for truly epic moments during the time that I have spent with this record.

I think what is different here than on Tyranny is the fact that this record embraces the dynamics of Tears of the Kingdom. There are moments in the story that require great reflection, great sacrifice from those involved. That is reflected here. There are other points where instantaneous action is required, that is also reflected. The difference between these two is staggering, and it makes for a truly enjoyable listening experience for me.

As I've been going through these records one by one I'm finding that I enjoy the music more and more in this game. I want to go back and explore the renewed Hyrule once again and have allowed myself the grace that I can enjoy this game knowing now that I need to go and do some quests before I really start exploring Hyrule. Once that is done I think I will enjoy this game much more than I did my first time.. at least that is my hope.
