Style: Black metal
Primary Emotions/Themes: This is how you do melodic black metal
Thoughts: I only recently discovered Runespell. I've known of them for quite some time but only decided to fully check out their discography last year. I am so pleased that I did.
There are few very bands that can write melodies like these guys do. Every single song off of this album absolutely slays. The melodies never stop, the riffs never lose focus, the drums and bass match everything perfectly. This is the definition of how to make good melodic black metal.
This is one of those albums that hard to summarize in text, because everything is going to sound like typical black metal. Acoustic intro: check. Long melodic songs with a lot of blast beats: check. Atmospheric keyboards: check. It's not that the songs have these elements though, its how these elements are used. The music is more than just the individual parts, it's black metal that is done so well that it demands attention.
I don't know how popular these guys are, but they sure as hell deserve more attention than they are getting. I look forward to seeing where they go from here, because the last few releases from them have been top shelf.
